The Kennel Assistant participates in the morning cleaning routine for sanitizing dog kennels and turn out rooms located in the dog wing. The Kennel Assistants must practice safe animal handling as per NCAL’s protocols and are willing to learn from the NCAL animal care team. This position requires some elbow grease, but it is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys physical labor! • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination • A minimum 3 month commitment • Must be at least 16 years of age • Must have an email address • Volunteers must fill out an application below • Must complete orientation and applicable training • Must pay $10 volunteer fee
What skills do I need to be a Kennel Assistant?
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time • Comfortable with animal handling • Ability to commit to a schedule • Comfortable lifting over 20lbs. • Ability to follow directions • Friendly and warm personality • Must be 16 years and older
What are the volunteer hours for this position?
This position is available Tuesdays through Saturdays, and shifts start at 8:30am
What are the essential functions of a Kennel Assistant?
• Sanitizing kennels; scrubbing each kennel with detergent; rinsing, sanitizing, and squeegee-ing kennels dry • Preparing fresh bedding, toys, bowls for each day • Sanitizing play rooms; removing toys, food, old water dishes and spray and scrub • Assisting with dishes, laundry, sweeping, and mopping as necessary.
