Pets in Crisis

North Country Animal League is a limited-access, 501(c)3 nonprofit shelter providing a safe temporary home for nearly 600 dogs and cats each year. We do not euthanize animals to make room for others, and are 100% committed to finding loving homes for each one of the animals in our care. The animals that come to NCAL are found as:

  • Local Strays

  • Surrendered to NCAL

  • Seized in cruelty cases

  • Transferred to our facility from rescue organizations all over the country who save them from puppy mills or high-kill shelters

Once an animal arrives at NCAL, they are spayed or neutered, vaccinated for distemper and rabies, dewormed, given flea preventative, heartworm preventative, bathed, microchipped, and receive any necessary medical care. Each animal is provided with a spacious, clean living environment, comfortable bedding, regular exercise, and a healthy diet. Our experienced staff provides each animal with lots of loving care, socialization, enrichment, and ensures that all of their needs are met during their time in our shelter.

NCAL does not receive funding from the state or federal government and is not affiliated with a national organization. All donations are tax-deductible in accordance with IRS guidelines.
