Heather Maffie is a CCTA Certified Dog Trainer and the owner and founder of Right Start Dog Training. She is a reward based trainer who utilizes positive reinforcement and behavior modification methods that are backed by scientific research. Her goal is to help dog owners learn to communicate with and understand their dogs so that they can encourage and teach desired behaviors while minimizing challenging and unwanted ones. Heather believes that effective, consistent training will strengthen the relationship between a dog and its owner – and that it should be fun for both dog and owner alike!

Heather’s passion for dog training blossomed in 2018 when she and her dog Kitty undertook the year-long process of training to become an approved Therapy Dog Team with Caring Canines. Since then, in addition to visiting countless schools, assisted living facilities and hospitals (which they still do), they are also members of the Boston Children’s Hospital Caring Canines Entertainment Team. Additionally, Heather was asked to become a Therapy Dog Evaluator for prospective teams and acts as a mentor to newly approved teams.

Heather is a registered member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC).
